MyCiti said in a statement on Thursday the pilot on-board wifi offering will provide each passenger on a number of buses in the city centre with 50MB of data free every day from any WiFi enabled device, such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop computer.

The service also provides free value-added content, such as news, weather and other multimedia, over and above the daily 50MB data limit. MyCiti said the service will gradually be rolled out to buses in other parts of the city.

MyCiti, whose main terminal is at the civic centre downtown, now reaches as far as Dunoon past Bloubergstrand, the Atlantic Seaboard and Hout Bay. It also offers one of the cheapest rides to the Cape Town International Airport.
