Boulders Beach near Simonstown is one of Cape Town’s most famous beaches, mostly because it is one of the only places where you can get so close to the rare African Penguin. The flightless bird is also known as the Cape penguin and the South African penguin, and is found only in southern African waters. The beach itself – with its massive boulders and often Mediterranean-blue clear waters where you can see the penguins darting about, if they aren’t lolling on the sand – is a gorgeous place too.
