It’s that time of year that publications are naming their top destinations to see in the coming year, and Cape Town comes out high in the Forbes Top 20. On a list that includes everything from Arizona’s Lake Powell to Palermo in Sicily, and from Melbourne to Mexico’s San Miguel del Allende, Cape Town came in at No. 3.
The Ovation Travel Group, which put the list together, said Cape Town topped the African destinations – which also included Kigali in Rwanda and Marrakech. The city appealed to a wide array of people: families, including those with several generations travelling together, adventurers, and luxury travellers.
“The warm mild climate makes Cape Town a fantastic destination,” said the agency’s Limor Decter. “The views of the ocean and the fantastic botanical gardens make this cosmopolitan city a most worthwhile place to visit all year long.”
Places to visit in Cape Town, it said, included Table Mountain, Cape Point and Kirstenbosch.
The other places on the list were Vera Vera (Chile), Mendoza (Argentina), Macchu Pichu, Chiang Mai, Cabo San Lucas (Mexico), Kotor (Montenegro), Pigeon Forge (Tennessee), Tokyo, Dubrovnik, Atacama Desert (Chile), Tel Aviv, Porto (Portugal) and Bariloche (Chile).
