Many of us know about AirBnb and Uber, but there are numerous travel apps out there that make travelling a whole lot easier, cheaper, and efficient. From audio guides to selling a hotel room you can’t use to finding the very best flight. Most of them are available on app for Android and IOS.

Hotel Tonight. Like the name says, the app offers last-minute deals for those of us who don’t plan far in advance or like to do things on the fly. “Due to the last minute nature of the bookings, the app can offer deep discounts off the listed hotel rate.”

Hopper. It shows you an array of prices for your travel dates and then sends you alerts about any changes in price that might be happening, so you can book in time.

Google Maps. The saviour of many a lost traveller, it also lets you plan things before you get to your destination.

Google Flights. Once you’ve used your favourite flight finder, whether it’s Skyscanner, Kiwi, Priceline, Momondo, Travelzoo, Rome2Rio, Hipmunk or Hopper, check out the old Google Flights for a comparison. It never hurts to double check.

LoungeBuddy. Want access to those airline lounges that seem to be reserved only for the rich and connected? Here it is.

Rick Stevens Audio Europe. The Rick Steves Audio Europe app organizes Rick’s vast library of self-guided walking tours and radio interviews into geographic playlists covering Europe’s top sights, travel tips, and cultural insights.

Roomer Travel. What do you do with a hotel room you have booked but can’t use?

Tripadvisor. Possibly the granddaddy of travel information. No place is too obscure. Flights, hotel, restaurants, information, reviews, it’s all here.

VRBO. Short for Vacation Rentals by Owner, VRBO is a listing site that matches people who need a holiday rental with property owners who have vacation homes to rent.

Timeshifter. “Jet lag is history,” the company says. “Developed by world-renowned scientists. Based on the latest sleep and circadian neuroscience. Used by astronauts and elite athletes. With Timeshifter, you can create your own personalized jet lag plans and arrive at your best.”
