The British hotel group InterContinental, which started its voco brand in 2018, will open its first hotel on the African continent in Johannesburg. Located in the heart of Rosebank, it is called voco The Bank.

Speaking during the announcement of the 131-room “luxury experience” hotel, which will be run together with Valor Hospitality Partners Africa, InterContinental’s MD for India, Middle East and Africa, Pascal Gauvin, said, “True to the brand promise, the new hotel will offer a unique hospitality experience to guests, and will cater to the increasing number of domestic and international travellers looking for quality branded accommodation in South Africa.”
The nearly completed hotel has been built on the site of what used to be First National Bank’s Rosebank office. The voco brand already has 10 hotels in Australia, the UK, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
InterContinental has two hotels in South Africa, at O.R. Tambo International Airport and at the Sandton Towers. It also has various other hotels under its brands the Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.
