“This operation was successfully led by the Consul General of the Netherlands Sebastian Messerschmidt and the Consul General of France Laurent Amar,” the French Consulate tweeted. “320 passengers are now flying to Amsterdam from Cape Town, a great example of European cooperation in these difficult times.”

All the passengers were taken from the stadium to Cape Town International Airport for the Air France/KLM flight.

Messerschmidt thanked the Western Cape Disaster Risk management Centre, the Cape Town Football Stadium, the Finance MEC David Maynier, premier Alan Winde, Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato and others who had helped in the repatriation effort.

“The stranded travelers will see their homes soon! Chapeau!” (Hats off!)
