A hippo from the Kosi Lake area in KwaZulu-Natal was recently spotted frolicking in the waves off the deserted beach of Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique, taking advantage of the human lockdown.
“Surprise visitor from South Africa to Ponta do Ouro Mozambique,” Ponta do Ouro Tourism said on its Facebook page.
The drone footage was filmed by Thiago Fonseca two weeks ago. The resort town is about 30 kilometres from Kosi Lake. The hippo, all alone, even seemed to get some body-surfing attempts in.
“No tourists were present – this solitary, majestic hippo had the time of its life frolicking and enjoying the water all to itself.”
