This morning the Skytrax World Airport Awards announced that Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) is the best airport in Africa, for the fifth time in a row. And Durban has the best staff on the continent.
“This accolade is a massive vote of confidence in our airport and I congratulate the CTIA, their team and all those involved in making this fantastic achievement possible, especially during these trying times.
“This award is yet another one on their impressive list of accomplishments,” said the City’s Mayoral member for economic opportunities and asset management, Alderman James Vos.
Vos also revealed that last week, together with Cape Town Tourism (CTT) (the city’s official Destination Marketing Organisation), the City of Cape Town has detailed plans to plot a sustainable future for the tourism sector.
“Central to these plans is our award-winning and world-class airport to bring back our tourists and to take our local goods across the world,” he said.
Durban King Shaka Airport wins awards
Durban’s King Shaka Airport also did well at the Awards… being named
- Best Airport Staff in Africa,
- Best Regional Airport in Africa, and
- Best Airport for handling 5-10 million passengers.
Changi Airport in Singapore wins again
Changi Airport in Singapore was voted the World’s Best Airport for the 8th consecutive year at the 2020 World Airport Awards which were meant to have been held on 1 April in Paris but were cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead a ‘virtual awards ceremony’ was streamed live on YouTube.
