Despite some confusion about new travel regulations under the COVID-19 lockdown that were gazetted on Friday, it appears that leisure travel inside your own province has apparently opened again.

According to the Flight Centre Travel Group, travel within a province is permitted for leisure purposes for activities allowed under Alert Level 3, such as golf, hiking and visiting a casino, restaurant or game reserve. Travellers are allowed to stay at accredited accommodation, although this excludes AirBnb for the time being.

Flight Centre welcomed the easing of intraprovincial domestic leisure travel, although it is unclear whether people in hotspots like Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban are allowed to travel out of their cities yet.

“The Government has recognised the importance of the travel and tourism industry opening sooner rather than later, under strict health and safety measures, to stimulate our ailing economy.,,” said Managing Director Andrew Stark.
