If you’re looking for a breathtaking burst of colour to lift your spirits, you’re in luck as it’s wildflower season in South Africa! One of the best locations right now to view SA’s spectacular wild flowers is the West Coast National Park (WCNP). But… if you’re smart, you’ll go on a week day like SAPeople contributor Des Featherstone did to capture these beautiful photos:

“The west coast flowers are blooming!” says Des, who visited the West Coast National Park, Postberg Reserve, last Thursday.

Those who waited until today, Saturday 22 August, got stuck in a shockingly long traffic jam as everyone near and far has made their way to the park to catch a glimpse of this annual spectacular phenomenon, one of the world’s most amazing – and consistent – wild flower displays. The footage below was filmed around midday today:

SAPeople follower Dorria Watt said: “We were there today, it was insane, about a 3 km queue, we avoided it, went through Langebaan and still saw amazing flowers.”

It may be a long wait, but it’s certainly worth it. Here’s another video from today for those lucky enough to get in:

Here's a look at today's spectacular flowers currently blooming in the Postberg Section of West Coast National Park. Remember, this section is in only open during August and September every year, so don't miss out. #WestCoastNationalPark #FlowerSeason #LiveYourWild #SANParks #Langebaan Westcoast Connection Langebaan

The Park opened its annual flower season earlier this month, which lasts until the end of September 2020. It is open for self-drives only at the moment.

The Park asks visitors to please note that temporary gate operating hours came into effect as of the 4th of August 2020: Monday to Sunday from 10h00am to 16h00pm, with the last entry at 3pm. With strict Covid 19 protocols in place, the park is only operating from the Langebaan entrance.

We love seeing these pictures 🌸🏵🌻🌼
