Nieuvoudtville in the Northern Cape seems to be ground zero for wildflowers at the moment, with stunning colours especially in the Hantam National Botanical Gardens. License plates from all around the country are showing up there to check out a very special year for wildflowers.
Other places people are talking about, Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve, Botterkloof Pass.
“The wild flowers have been amazing this year,” says Western Cape photographer Robyn Gwilt, “and all the beautiful mountain passes we’ve driven along – some tarred, some hectically rough… the views of this amazing place takes your breath away. My eyes are aching from the riot of colour over the past week.
“Although the foreign tourists are missing, the locals are ON THE MOVE! Number plates from Natal, Gauteng, NW, FS… everyone is out and about. Accommodation is not that easy to come by, with many places booked up till mid September.”
Barry Hyman Bass took these amazing photos in Kamieskroon in the centre of Namaqualand, in the Northern Cape. He says: “The wild flowers are out.”
And Sindi van Zyl says don’t forget the waterfall!
