Anyone visiting Letaba rest camp in Kruger National Park, bring your own food and necessities, because the shop and a TV room for staff burnt down last night.
Kruger National Park said in a statement today that a fire broke out in the shop storeroom and completely gutted the shop and the staff television room at about 8 p.m. The cause of the fire was still being investigated, they added.
Kruger Park and other parks across the country only opened accommodation again on 14 August after months of lockdown.
Staff from Letaba and Olifants and the fire and rescue team from Phalaborwa prevented the fire from spreading to other structures, SANP said.
KNP’s Gareth Coleman said, “We are grateful that no life was lost and no staff nor visitors sustained any injuries. We also extend our gratitude to the staff and emergency services team who contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other structures.”
