United Airlines will fly from New York to Johannesburg daily, starting in early 2021, to add to its seasonal flights to Cape Town, the airline said in a statement yesterday.
In December last year, United started the thrice-weekly flight to Cape Town from Newark, the alternative international airport to JFK serving New York City. The Johannesburg flight will also leave from Newark, a United hub.
United will also be adding three nonstop flights a week, one each from Washington to Accra and Lagos.
In June, Delta announced that it would be adding Cape Town on its Africa circuit, flying Atlanta-Johannesburg-Cape Town-Atlanta, instead of Atlanta-Johannesburg and back. Last month the airline said the flight would occur five times a week rather than daily.
