Hotels, resorts and game lodges in South Africa have scored incredibly well across the board this year in the annual Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, with 19 of the Top 30 Hotels in Africa and its own country category for game lodges and resorts.

South African safari lodges usually do extremely well on international awards lists, but Conde Nast Traveler this year gave South Africa its own category – one of the few countries in the world to do so – because so many properties scored so highly.
In the Top 20 South African Resorts List, Morukuru Family Beach Lodge in De Hoop scored a near perfect 99.88, followed by Singita’s Sabi Sands Boulders, Royal Malewane near Kruger National Park, and Lion Sands, also near Kruger. All of the winners were game lodges except for Moruku and Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve near Clanwilliam.

Of the top 19 hotels in South Africa, 13 were in Cape Town, including the Cadogan, the Mount Nelson, Tintswalo Atlantic, the Silo and Ellerman House. The top hotels were Delaire Graff Wine Estate and The Plettenberg, in Plettenberg Bay. The top three went to the Royal Mansour and La Mamounia in Morocco and Giraffe Manor in Nairobi.
In the 25 Best Resorts in Africa, almost half of the winning lodges in the rest of Africa are owned by South African luxury lodge companies Singita, Wilderness Safairs and andBeyond.
